“While at Youth Mix, I was given the confidence to take on leadership positions on multiple projects, the autonomy to influence the direction of how the charity distributed its knowledge and services was something I really enjoyed. We aimed to aid young adults within our Young Leaders project as young people ourselves.
Working on the Young Offenders project enabled myself and my colleagues to branch to a sector in society which statistically would have otherwise not had the same positive impact. We are creating a programme for young offenders to smoothly transition and integrate back into society, with better resources with an aim to prevent reoffending. Overall, this whole experience has been a great transition into my career as a future solicitor.
The support provided by the charity enabled me to get tailored advice from other volunteers who worked in specialist areas. This encouraged me to really understand how the corporate world works and what they are looking for in a successful application.
The CEO of Youth Mix (a Senior Consultant at the UK Home Office) connected me to their circle of connections for employment advice. When applying for a role within the Civil Service, I was able to meet with a previous Senior Civil Servant who understood the civil service recruitment process; and I was given valuable tips to complete my application to a high standard that would allow success”
